For casual visitors Lifeboat Station is accessible to the public 10am – 4pm every day from Easter to end of September. Sunday morning between 10am and noon is the prime time to visit and see the lifeboat launch on training exercise and to speak with the crew. The team at Sheringham RNLI have expert knowledge of the local waters and in respect of all aspects of water safety. They are happy to share this and promote safe recreational use of the sea and coastal waters.
As an RNLI operational lifeboat station we offer a great visitor experience. Access to the station is free and you are welcome to come in and have a look, to learn more about our station and see our Atlantic Class Lifeboat The Oddfellows. We are open all year (subject to operational requirements) and have an RNLI gift shop on site and another in the town.
The Station particularly welcomes visits from school, youth and community/adult groups. These must be booked in advance using the attached form. Whilst we will try to arrange your visit for the date and time you choose, it is important to offer alternatives. Sheringham Lifeboat Crew and all those who will make you welcome are all volunteers with busy working lives and family responsibilities.
A tour of the station could consist of a mix of:
- Sea Safety
- Day to day station operations
- RNLI UK operations
- Crew Equipment
- Sheringham’s lifeboat(s)
This can take the form of video clips, slide presentation, quiz, trying on Crew outfits and a visit to the Lifeboat and also to cover any areas of your group’s particular interest.
The Visits Team will tailor the tour to the age and requirements of the group. Tours normally last between 30 minutes to 1 hour and can be available mornings, afternoons or evenings, subject to the availability of the volunteers. There is no charge for tours, but a donation to the RNLI is always appreciated.
This is a unique opportunity for you to learn more about the vital work of the RNLI. We look forward to welcoming you to our station and hope you enjoy your visit.
We require a minimum of four weeks prior notice, as all tours are managed by volunteers.
- Station tours are NOT available on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings due to crew training.
